Minneapolis, Minn. — Sharp Electronics Corp. (Mahwah, N.J.), Panasonic Corporation of North America (Secaucus, N.J.) and Toshiba America Consumer Products, LLC (Wayne, N.J.) have announced that they are creating a nationwide electronics recycling program, through their MRM venture, to provide free consumer recycling of televisions and other consumer electronics devices.
The Electronic Manufacturers Recycling Management Company, LLC or MRM, a provider of e-waste recycling management services to manufacturers, was established as a joint venture by Panasonic, Sharp, and Toshiba to develop and operate a national take-back and recycling program that is open to all manufacturers. These three companies will be the first to use this expanded recycling service to operate their individual manufacturer recycling programs.
This new initiative will enable MRM to expand its operations beyond its current compliance management activities in Minnesota and Texas. The program will kick off in several states including California, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin in November, and is slated to expand to all 50 states over the next three years.
In addition to the MRM program, Sharp will also accept consumer drop-offs of Sharp televisions and consumer electronics products for recycling at its headquarters in Mahwah, New Jersey.
Panasonic also announced the creation of a new Recycling Office within the company's Corporate Environmental Department. The new office will have responsibility for this program, and will be headed by Richard Vernam, Recycling Group Manager.
A complete list of recycling locations will be available by November 1 at the MRM website.
