Winchester, UK - Developer of silicon-based anodes for next generation lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries, Nexeon, has been named as one of the 'Top 20 fastest growing Clean & Cool companies in the UK', and has been given a place on the Clean & Cool Mission to San Francisco, USA, that will take place during February 2010.

The Clean & Cool Mission 2010 is a collaboration between the Technology Strategy Board, UK Trade & Investment, market intelligence company Polecat, social innovation broker Volans and Enterprise UK. The companies selected will be travelling from 20 Feb to 26 Feb to meet investors, potential partners, media and peers on the US West Coast.

The mission will give the 20 selected innovative and growing clean technology companies the opportunity to engage with the USA's top technology businesses and to discuss the emerging market opportunities that the race to address climate change presents. The mission is supported by Orrick, BP Alternative Energy and Cleantech Group.

"We're delighted to have been selected to take part in this important mission", said Dr Scott Brown, CEO of Nexeon. It comes at a great time for us as our world-leading technology is starting to become better known and our discussions with potential commercial partners develop."

Iain Gray, Chief Executive of the Technology Strategy Board said: "The real story here is about these very successful UK business people who have embarked on innovative ventures in a new but growing sector. They are pioneers and we are working with them because we want to see them find their place in what looks set to become a successful international market."

Bronwyn Kunhardt of Polecat who is organising the mission, added that previous missions run for UK web startups had proved successful, with three of the 20 companies that travelled to the US last year securing funding and many of the others continuing to prosper.
