RJ-45 connectors pack options for magnetics and LEDs

Glen Rock, Pa. — Bel Stewart Connector, a subsidiary of Bel Fuse Inc., expands its portfolio of single- and multi-port MagJack Integrated Connector Modules (ICMs) with the introduction of RJ-45 connectors with integrated magnetics and LED options for high-density networking and telecommunications applications. The Compressor Series of SMT MagJack connectors are designed for small form factor 1 GHz applications.

These right-angle jacks incorporate the magnetics required to provide the isolation and EMI suppression necessary for 10/100/1000 Base-T applications into the shielded body of a rugged RJ-45 connector, and offer options for two LEDs per port. LED options include yellow, green, red, and bi-colors.

The MagJacks have been tested to deliver a minimum of 1500 Vrms hi-pot isolation from EMI and RFI interference. They offer 350 μH minimum OCL (open-circuit inductance) with an 8 mA bias current. The operating temperature range is -40°C to 85°C. Connector contacts are phosphor bronze, gold-plated (30 microinch) to ensure high-cycle life.

Designed with system design flexibility and the need to reduce assembly time and cost in mind, the Compressor MagJacks are available in a variety of internal filter designs to optimize the performance of many popular chipsets. They feature a full range of magnetic options including transformers, chokes, capacitors, and termination resistors. The MagJack products meet or exceed IEEE 802.3ab and ANSI X3.263 standards. The devices are RoHS compliant.

Suitable for CAT 5 and CAT 6 Fast Ethernet cable, the 1 GHz MagJack is suitable for use in small form factor and chassis applications where space above the PCB is limited. They target Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA) platform rack-mount products such as blade servers and daughtercards, and are widely specified in SOHO (ADSL modems), LAN-on-Motherboard (LOM), hub, and switch applications. Pricing for the Compressor Series MagJacks (P/N C85X) ranges from $1.75 to $2.25 per port in production quantities. Samples are available immediately with ten-week lead times for production quantities.
