Round Rock, Tex. — Dell has expanded its energy-efficiency product portfolio with two enhanced PowerEdge Energy Smart servers with reduced power consumption.

Dell has incorporated its Energy Smart technology, which debuted in select corporate desktops in September 2006, into its PowerEdge 1950 and 2950 models to help decrease power consumption and reduce overall operating costs. The Dell PowerEdge Energy Smart 1950 and 2950 are said to deliver up to 25 percent greater performance per watt while reducing power consumption by up to 24 percent.

These savings can translate into reduced costs for large data center deployments, and increased density in the data center by deploying four PowerEdge Energy Smart servers within the same "power envelope" occupied today by three standard servers, according to the company. The PowerEdge Energy Smart servers incorporate power-optimizing features such as low-flow fan technology, high-efficiency power supplies, dual-core Intel Xeon low-voltage processors, and factory integrated BIOS and unique component specifications designed for increased efficiency and air flow. In addition to energy-efficient product designs, Dell also offers product lifecycle, sustainability and recycling programs. For example, Dell's Data Center Environment Assessment Service helps businesses to assess, scope and plan data center power and cooling requirements prior to deployment. They are also provided with comprehensive assessments and remediation plans for HVAC, cooling and power delivery systems. The Dell PowerEdge Energy Smart 1950 and 2950 servers are available now worldwide. Prices start at $2,449 and $2,619, respectively.
